Chelton G. GreyMarch 2010
Music does not fall within one genre and neither does the ability of this musician. Chelton was introduced to the world of music by his parents, and started playing the electric bass professionally at the age of fourteen. Since then, Chelton has played for many different artists, television shows, concerts, and forums. These include but are not limited to, Greater Allen Cathedral of New York; Julliard; Manhattan School of Music; theme music and live music for BET Sunday’s Best; Verizon’s How Sweet The Sound, The McClurkin Project; T.D. Jakes Book Tour; contributions to gospel artist, Vickie Winans’s Grammy award winning single; theme music for Everybody Hates Chris; international reggaeton artist, Notch; and nationally touring with Grammy nominated Hip-Hop artist, Fabolous. Chelton uses HERCULES guitar stands GS402B, GS412B and GS422B, and HERCULES music stand BS411B. “Hercules Stands are the best. As a musician, one of the top priorities is your instrument. Its innovative style not only gives my bass a ‘state-of-the-art’ look but also the security needed until ready for use. ” Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, at the impressionable age of eleven Chelton G. Grey was introduced to the world of music by his father. At the age of fourteen, Chelton began playing the electric bass guitar. His foundation and weekly practice began in the church. As his desire for music grew, Chelton found different outlets to express his passion for music. During high school he played for the bands of Sheepshead High School in Brooklyn, NY. He practiced and mimicked tunes and melodies heard from the reggae music that was frequently played in his home. Attending the Collective Music Conservatory School of New York helped to cultivate and enhance his understanding of the bass guitar through reading, writing and practicing music on a daily basis. His initiative to focus on the craft and ability to grasp the fundamental aspects of music has opened numerous doors of opportunity. Chelton’s motivation to learn does not end in a traditional classroom. He studies and receives mentoring from Stanley Brown, Benjamin Love, Jeff “Lo” Davis, and Bernard Belle. He also interns at JSM Music Studios in New York. At JSM Music he is able to learn about the music production within the largest commercial music production company in America producing music for some of the world's best-known advertisements. The understanding of God’s purpose for his life keeps Grey motivated to learn more about music in order to teach others. With the strength and empowerment of God and support from family and loved ones his ministry and craft will continue to flourish to greater things. Visit www.myspace.com/cheltune to find out more.
